Disconnect the air lines from the air cleaner and from the airbox or throttle body where required and remove them for better access.
On 1.4L and 1.6L models equipped with power steering, the alternator drive belt also drives the power steering pump.
To remove the belt on 1.8L and 2.0L models, first remove the power steering pump drive belt as directed in chapter 10.
Loosen the nuts and bolts of the alternator just enough so that the alternator can be turned towards the engine.
Remove the belt from the pulleys.
Install the belt on the pulleys and tighten the belt gradually by turning the alternator away from the engine and lightly tightening the nuts and bolts.
On models with 1.8L and 2.0L engines, install and tension the power steering pump drive belt as directed in chapter 10.
Tension the alternator drive belt as shown below.
The correct tension of the drive belt guarantees its long service life. However, try not to overtighten the belt, this leads to increased wear on the generator.
Do the operations indicated in the first two paragraphs of this section.
Although special tools are required to check the tension of the drive belt, the tension can also be checked approximately by pressing down the middle of the belt with your thumb - the deflection should be about 13 mm.
Install air ducts.
After installing a new belt, you should check its tension after a run of about 400 km.
