Remove the cylinder head.
Remove the sump, oil supply pipe and reflector (if used).
Remove the oil pump.
Remove the pistons and connecting rods as outlined in the previous section. If you do not need to repair the pistons and connecting rods, there is no need to push the pistons out of the cylinders.
Turn the engine over so that the crankshaft is up.
Before removing the crankshaft, check its displacement along the axis using a dial gauge. Determine if new bearing shells are required.
If there is no such device, you can use a set of probes.
The main bearing caps are numbered 1 to 4 starting from the end of the timing belt. rear (flywheel side) cover is not marked. To ensure proper installation, remember that numbers are counted from the side of the water pump.
Loosen the main bearing cap bolts and remove them.
Remove the crankshaft from the crankcase.
Remove the upper bearing shells and mark their position if they can still be used later.
