Engines 1.4 and 1.6 liters
Disconnect the hose (hoses) on the distributor cap.
Remove the bolts together with clamps and/or brackets if possible.
Separate the camshaft cover from the cylinder head.
Before reinstalling, inspect the inside of the cover and, if necessary, wipe the cover with kerosene and dry it.
Inspect the rubber seal and replace if necessary. Please note that on some engine models, the seal is located so that the mark on the seal matches the mark on the cover.
Install the cover by carefully wiping the mating surfaces.
Connect the hose (And) to the pipes.
Engines 1.8 and 2.0 l with a single camshaft
Follow the same sequence of operations as in the previous section for 1.4L and 1.6L engines and replace the gasket.
If possible, inspect the condition of the crankcase breather under the camshaft cover and clean it with kerosene or water-based solvent if clogged.
Install the cover and new gasket by thoroughly wiping the mating surfaces.
2.0L twin cam engines
Remove the timing belt outer cover.
Disconnect the hoses from the camshaft cover.
Using a socket wrench, unscrew the two mounting bolts and remove the spark plug cap. Disconnect the high voltage wires from the spark plugs.
Remove the twenty bolts with a socket wrench and remove the camshaft cover and replace the rubber gasket if necessary.
Before assembling, inspect the internal surfaces of the parts, wipe the cover with kerosene or water-based solvent, dry it thoroughly.
Replace the cover by tightening the bolts and connecting the high voltage wires to the spark plugs.
Connect the hoses, replace the outer cover.
