The compilers of this Guide recommend replacing the steering knuckle bolts and nuts, regardless of their condition. To perform the procedure, you will need a ball joint puller.
The collapse of the front wheels is regulated by the position of the bolt securing the fist to the rack. Before removing the bolts, mark the landing position of the knuckle relative to the rack. Upon completion of the assembly, the geometry of the front suspension is to be checked and, if necessary, adjusted in a car service workshop.
Removing
1. Apply the parking brake, jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on jack stands. Remove the corresponding front wheel.
2. Release a nut of fastening of a tip of steering draft to the lever of a rotary fist. Using a special puller, release the tip from the lever (see Removal and installation of tips of steering draughts).
3. Remove hub assembly (see Checking the condition and replacing the hub assembly).
4. Mark the position of the knuckle relative to the suspension strut (see the warning at the beginning), give two nuts and remove the fixing bolts (note that the bolts are mounted head first on the vehicle). Separate the ball joint from the knuckle. Remove your fist from the rack. Mounting bolts and nuts must be replaced without fail.
Installation
1. Plant a rotary fist on a rack and insert new fixing bolts. Make sure that the alignment marks applied during dismantling are correctly aligned, then screw on the fixing nuts and tighten them in several stages with the required force (see Specifications).
2. Install hub assembly (see Checking the condition and replacing the hub assembly).
3. Connect to a fist a tip of steering draft and tighten its nut with the required effort.
4. Install the front wheel and lower the vehicle to the ground.
5. Drive the car to a workshop for checking and, if necessary, adjusting the alignment of the front wheels.
