On models with internal tripod-type hinges, replacement of their protective covers is possible only after removing the outer hinges.
1. Remove the drive shaft (see Removal and installation of power shafts). Remove the corresponding hinge (see Check of a condition and replacement of hinges of equal angular speeds (SHRUS)). Please note that if you need to lure both cases, it is enough to remove only one hinge (on the right shaft - also a torsional vibration damper).
2. Remove the cover from the shaft - if necessary, the cover to be replaced can simply be cut off.
3. Check the condition of the hinge, if necessary, replace it (see Check of a condition and replacement of hinges of equal angular speeds (SHRUS)). After flushing the joint, completely remove all traces of old grease from it, then pack it with fresh grease of the required type.
4. Fit the inner collar of the boot onto the shaft
5. Then put on a new boot so that it is fixed in the groove of the shaft with its narrow sleeve.
6. Stuff the hinge with the required type of grease, squeeze out the remaining grease into the boot.
7. Place the hinge on the shaft - do not forget to replace the retaining ring and monitor the reliability of its snapping into the receiving groove.
8. Pull the cover over the hinge and release air from under it by prying the outer edge with a screwdriver.
9. Fix a cover with new collars. Using ring ties, put the tie on the cover and pull it off with wire cutters. Opel recommends the use of a special tool, although with careful use, wire cutters work just as well. When using bandage-type clamps, wrap the clamp around the boot, after lubricating it with molybdenum-containing grease, tighten it as tight as possible and hook the protrusion at one end of the clamp into the hole in the other. Finally, tighten the clamp by squeezing the free U-shaped section with wire cutters, being careful not to damage the cover.
A - Tightening the clamp with the special tool HAZET 1847-1
B - Tightening the outer clamp of the bandage type using special HAZET pliers and a torque wrench (25 Nm)
C - Tightening the inner band type clamp with special HAZET pliers and a torque wrench (25 Nm)

10. Install the shaft on the car (see Removal and installation of power shafts).
