Attention: The luggage compartment must under no circumstances be used for the transport of passengers!
General information
The luggage compartment is provided for the carriage of hand luggage and bulky items. If necessary, the volume of the luggage compartment can be increased by folding the rear bench seat (see Section 12).
The dynamic characteristics of a loaded car are directly dependent on the correct distribution of the load. Try to stow heavy cargo as far forward as possible, reserving the back of the luggage compartment for the transport of lighter items, remember that luggage should always rest against the backs of the front or rear bench seats. Make sure that the stowed luggage does not rise above the top cuts of the seatbacks.
Note: Where possible, load should be placed behind unoccupied seats with their backs in an upright position.
Remember that the total mass of the vehicle, including the mass of passengers, must not exceed the maximum permissible value (see specs), the same applies to the distributed load on each of the vehicle axles.
Access
A description of how to access the luggage compartment of the car is given in Part A of this chapter (see Section 3).
Luggage shelf/curtain
To protect items stowed in the luggage compartment from prying eyes or from exposure to direct sunlight, a special decorative shelf is provided on Hatchback models, and a horizontal blind on Station wagon models.
Hatchback Models
decorative shelf (see illustration 17.32) from the passenger compartment, it is mounted in special side rails and held in a vertical position with the help of fixing cables, one end of which is fixed on the shelf, and the other is inserted into the mounting socket on the tailgate. If dismantling is necessary, it is necessary to remove the fixing cables from the tailgate mounting slots, lift the shelf and pull it towards you from the side rails. Installation is in the reverse order.
Models Wagon
Attention: Never place any, even very light, objects on a stretched horizontal curtain - the springy effect of the curtain can lead to these objects falling into the passenger compartment during a sharp braking of the car and lead to unforeseen consequences!
Horizontal shade cover (see illustration 17.33) mounted in ras-pores in front of the luggage compartment. The curtain is pulled out through the groove of the casing and fixed in special holders near the opening of the tailgate. If there is no need to use the curtain, it is reeled up inside its casing, for which it is necessary to pull the curtain handle down - the curtain rewinds automatically.
To close the shutter, it is necessary to pull it out of the casing by the handle until it locks in its final position.
The gap between the shade cover and the rear seat backrests is closed by means of a shelf attached to the rear side of the cover. The other side of the shelf is attached with special fasteners to the guide rods of the headrests (see illustration 17.34), with the installed barrier mesh (see below) fasteners are threaded through the cells of the lattice. To remove the curtain, you must first wind it into the casing, disconnect the fasteners of the rear shelf from the guide rods of the head restraints, pull the lock lever (see illustration 17.35) on the right side of the casing up and remove the right side of the casing from the mounting socket, then remove the casing from the left mount. Do not leave the removed shade cover unsecured in the vehicle. Installation of the horizontal blind casing is carried out in the reverse order.
Barrier net (station wagon models)
To prevent accidental movement of cargo from the luggage compartment to the passenger compartment, a barrier net can be installed on Station wagon models. It is possible to install the net, both behind the rear bench seat and behind the front seats with the rear seat fully folded.
Installing the mesh behind the rear bench seat
Before installing the grid, it is necessary to dismantle the casing of the horizontal blind (see above).
There are two mounting holes in the roof frame (see illustration 17.36). The upper anchor supports of the mesh must be threaded into the mounting holes first from one side and then from the other side and fixed in forward movement. Then it is necessary to adjust the length of the fastening straps on the underside of the net and fix them in the special eyelets (see illustration 17.37) on the floor of the luggage compartment on the right and left.
Note: On models equipped with a fore and aft adjustable rear bench seat (see Section 12), the lashing straps are attached to the eyelets on the back of the rear seatbacks on the right and left.
If necessary, after installing the grid, the casing of the horizontal blind is mounted.
Removing the mesh is done in reverse order.
Features of installing the grid behind the front seats
There are similar mounting holes in the roof frame at the level of the front seat backrests to install the safety net when the rear bench seat is fully folded down (see illustration 17.36). The lashing straps are attached to the eyelets under the raised rear seat cushions (see illustration 17.38).
Note: On models equipped with a fore and aft adjustable rear bench seat (see Section 12), the lashing straps are attached to the eyelets on the back side of the reclined rear seat cushions (see illustration 17.39).
Placement and fixation of luggage
On models of the corresponding configuration, the fixation of the cargo carried in the luggage compartment of the car must be carried out using belts, elastic bandage tapes (for fastening light objects) or special straps (for fixing heavy objects), hooked to special anchor eyes or hooks fixed to the floor of the luggage compartment (see illustration 17.40), as well as with the help of a special luggage net (see illustration 17.41). With the appropriate equipment, small items, the need for which arises quite rarely, can be stored in a niche of the luggage compartment closed by a lid, in the cells of a special luggage box (see illustration 17.42) The drawer can only be accessed when the backrests of the rear bench seat are locked in an upright position.
To dismantle the luggage box, it is necessary to remove the floor cover, and then alternately remove the right and then the left half of the box.
Note: On models equipped with a tow hitch, first loosen the towball attachment strap and pass it through the lug (see Section 32).
Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Models Wagon
On the side walls of the luggage compartment, two guides are fixed. They are designed to install special fasteners and hooks on them to secure the load (see illustration 17.43). With the appropriate configuration, rails can be installed under the Flex Organizer system. System kit includes special adapters, adjustable partition net, mesh bags on the side walls and hooks (see illustrations 17.44, 17.45, 17.46). By moving the dividing grid along the rails, you can distribute the space for loading various luggage in the most convenient way.
Storage space for spare wheel, wheel wrench jack
Depending on the variant, the vehicle may be supplied with a spare, or a special compact wheel, or a tire repair kit (see Chapter 1, Section 5). Space for a spare wheel is provided in the niche of the luggage compartment equipped with a removable cover (see illustration 17.47).
Note: On Estate models, all hooks and adapters must be removed from the luggage compartment rails before lifting the lid.
If equipped, to remove the spare/compact wheel, the luggage box must first be removed (see illustration 17.42). On-board tool kit (including jack and wheel wrench) stored under the spare wheel (see illustration 17.48).
Storage space for first aid kit
The first-aid kit is attached to the left or right wall (depending on the model) luggage compartment with a special belt (see illustrations 17.49a, b)
Place to store the warning triangle
On Hatchback models, the storage space for the warning triangle is located on the rear wall of the luggage compartment (see illustration 17.50a). To extract the sign, it is necessary to lift its right edge and remove the left edge from the opening. For models equipped with a luggage box, the warning triangle is attached to the right section of the box. It is necessary to lift the right section of the luggage box and remove the warning triangle by moving it to the right.
On Wagon models, the warning triangle is fixed with fastening straps on the console of the inner upholstery of the tailgate (see illustration 17.50b).
Upper trunk
Note: The roof rack is not included with the vehicle and must be purchased separately.
Before purchasing a roof rack, consult your Opel Dealership about roof rack designs approved for your specific vehicle model. The installation of the trunk must be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the instructions attached to it and only using special fasteners that are equipped with the roof of the car (see illustrations 17.51 and 17.52).
