In addition, the quality of radio signal reception depends on the power of the transmitting station and the distance from the signal source, on the presence of shielding buildings and structures (houses, bridges, etc.), as well as from the influence of terrain conditions (mountains, lowlands, etc.).
Note: Using a cell phone in or near a car may interfere with the radio.
Radio activation
When activated, the infotainment system is activated in radio playback mode, if it was installed before the system was switched off.
To activate the radio from the CD playback mode, press the button «FM/AM» (7). Subsequent presses of the button will switch the receiver bands in the following order:
FM (VHF) «AM (medium and short waves)
When the radio is activated or when switching between frequency bands, the frequency of the radio station that was tuned in the last time the radio was used is selected.
Radio tuning
Tuning the radio can be done in the following ways:
- Automatic search for radio stations;
- Manual search for radio stations;
- Search for radio stations by program type (RDS radio data system).
Automatic setting
Automatic frequency tuning is done by pressing the 4-position switch with a short delay (14) - this activates the automatic search for the nearest frequency with the received signal and the display shows the inscription «Seek» before the operating frequency of the received station. Depending on pressing the right or left sector of the switch, the search is performed in the direction of increasing or decreasing frequencies.
Note: RDS and TP functions must be disabled when searching automatically (see below).
While searching, the playback sound is muted. When auto tuning is complete, the radio will begin playing the newly tuned station.
If the radio does not find any radio stations, it automatically switches to a search mode with a higher sensitivity. In case of unsuccessful search and after this attempt, the signal of the radio station selected before starting the search will be played.
Manual setting
If necessary, the frequency of the desired radio station can be tuned in manually.
Warning: The frequency setting must not be done while the vehicle is moving!
By briefly pressing the button of the 4-position switch (14) the frequency change will occur step by step when you click on the right sector - in the direction of increase, when you click on the left sector - in the direction of decrease. This function is used to fine-tune the frequency.
If you know the frequency of the required radio station, hold the appropriate sector of the switch (14) pressed until this frequency is reached - the display shows in front of the current frequency of the radio station «MAN». While searching, the playback sound is muted and reactivated when the button is released.
Radio Data System (RDS) (FM)
Radio Data System (RDS) is a broadcast service that allows FM stations to broadcast additional digital information along with the regular radio program signal.
Radio receivers equipped with radio data systems and gateway decoders (RDS/EON), when tuned to broadcast frequencies, a number of FM radio stations are able to read special service information, which allows you to use some additional functions, such as determining the name of the radio station, automatically switching to alternative broadcast frequencies of the selected radio station, detecting and transmitting traffic information service messages, searching for programs of a given subject and so on.
To activate the RDS function, briefly press the button (1) - the corresponding indicator should light up in the display field. If the currently tuned radio station does not support the RDS format, the radio automatically searches for the nearest signal of the corresponding radio station.
In the display field, instead of the current frequency, the name of the radio station broadcasting will be displayed.
Note: When the automatic station memory function is turned on (see below) the RDS function is activated automatically.
To deactivate the RDS function, press the button again (1) - the corresponding indicator on the display should go out, and instead of the name of the radio station, the current tuning frequency will be displayed.
Selecting RDS radio stations
The Infotainment system stores all received FM radio stations in the backup memory. The station data list is automatically initiated when the TP station search or auto station memory function is activated (see below). This sorts the RDS radio stations in the channel list by radio station name (e.g. HR1, HR2, etc.).
This list is manually initiated by holding down until the button beeps «RDS» (1) - the display will show «Memory FM», then «MEM» and the operating frequency of the received radio station. To select RDS radio stations from the list, briefly press the left / right sector of the 4-position switch (14) — the radio tunes in to the next RDS station in the list.
To search for RDS radio stations without using the list, you must, with the RDS function activated, (the corresponding indicator lights up on the display) keep the left/right sector of the 4-position switch pressed until the inscription appears on the display «Seek» — searches for the nearest radio station that is broadcasting RDS signals, while searching, the playback sound is muted. Note: If the traffic announcement function was previously activated (TR) (see below), the radio will only search for stations that support this format.
Selection of programs by type of transmitted messages (PTY)
Many RDS radios transmit a PTY code indicating the type of program being broadcast (for example, NEWS - news). Using the PTY code, you can search for radio stations by the type of programs they broadcast.
This function is activated by selecting the corresponding parameter in the settings menu (PTY) (see above).
After each press on the upper/lower sector of the 4-position switch (14) the next name of the program type will appear in the display field (see explanatory table). After selecting the desired type of programs, you must press the right sector of the 4-position switch and hold it down until the inscription appears on the display «PTY» - the playback sound is muted and the search for a radio station broadcasting a program of the specified type is activated. If the radio does not find a suitable radio station, you will hear the last tuned radio station.
PTY Program Type Classification:
Regional program search function (REG)
Activation / deactivation of the REG function is done by pressing the button (5) on the infotainment system control panel. When this function is activated, the corresponding indicator lights up in the display field - when searching for and selecting RDS radio stations, the regional broadcasting code will be additionally checked.
traffic announcements (TR)
Reception of traffic reports is possible in the FM band, as well as when playing cassettes or CDs, regardless of the activation of the RDS function. The sound level for traffic announcements can be set in advance by selecting via the setup menu (see above) TA VOLUME parameter.
The traffic announcement function is activated by pressing the button «TR» (4) — if the radio station currently tuned in is not broadcasting traffic announcements, the search for the radio station with the strongest signal that broadcasts traffic announcements is automatically started. When the function is activated, the indicator appears in the display field «[TR]» - if messages are being broadcast, or «[]» — if no radio station is currently transmitting traffic information.
When receiving an information message, the audio system will automatically stop playing the current mode and switch to the frequency of the traffic announcement service - the corresponding indication will appear on the display. The transmitted information is broadcast at the volume preset for traffic announcements. At the end of the broadcast, the audio system will return to the previously set settings.
Playback of an informational message can be interrupted before the end of its broadcast by pressing the button «TR» - the audio system will return to the previously set settings, and the TP function will switch to the waiting mode for the next message.
The function is deactivated by pressing the button again (4).
The search for radio stations broadcasting traffic announcements can be performed by pressing the right/left sector of the 4-position selector switch in the same way as when selecting RDS radio stations (see above), but with the TP function activated.
This audio system allows you to listen to traffic announcements without playing other broadcast sources or CD recordings. To do this, you need to turn off the sound by blocking (see above) - the display will show «Mute», or by turning the volume knob (8) to the far left. In this case, the audio system will only play the received traffic announcements at the volume preset for this function (see above).
When an external audio source is connected to the audio system (e.g. mobile phone), while this unit is operating, playback of other audio sources (including and traffic announcements) not available - the display will show the inscription «Extern In». However, if necessary, you can interrupt the playback of audio from an external source and switch to receiving a traffic report. When the TP function is activated when receiving a message on the screen instead of the inscription «Extern In.» the name of the radio station broadcasting the traffic announcement appears. To switch to the message playback mode and back, press the button «TR» (4).
Memorizing presets
Up to 12 FM radio station settings can be stored in the radio's memory (6 each in FM and FM-AS level) and up to 12 AM radio station presets (6 each in AM and AM-AS level).
To activate the FM-AS or AM-AS level, press the button «AS» (2) on the control panel of the system after pre-selecting the FM or AM band - the corresponding indicator should light up on the display. To go to the first level of the corresponding range, you must press the same button again - the indicator in the display field should go out. Entering frequencies into the system memory is performed in the following sequence:
- a) Tune in the desired radio station manually (see above).
- b) Press one of the 6 preset radio buttons (12) and hold it for about 3 seconds until a beep sounds - during this time, the frequency previously entered in this memory cell is displayed on the display screen. After a confirmation signal, the radio receiver starts broadcasting the newly tuned radio station, and the name or operating frequency of this radio station appears on the display - the setting has been memorized.
Note: At the moment the button is pressed, the sound playback will be temporarily stopped and will resume when the button is released.
- c) Repeat the above operations with other buttons to tune in the radio stations you listen to most often.
Note: The frequency is memorized at the same time as the RDS settings that were activated at the time of recording.
Tuning and recording frequencies manually can also be done by activating the AS level.
The settings stored in the memory cells are activated by briefly pressing the number buttons 1-6 (12) after pre-selecting the desired level using the button «AS» (2).
Also, if you hold down the button «AS» (2) pressed until you hear a beep, the radio will switch to the AS level and will automatically search for stations, with the settings of 6 of them (with the strongest signal) are stored in the memory cells of the receiver (number buttons (12)).
Note: When this operation is performed, the playback sound is muted. The entry is made only for the AS level.
When you turn on the automatic recording of radio stations in the memory, the RDS function is automatically activated, all radio stations that support the RDS format are first memorized.
If you activate the TP traffic announcement function before activating the automatic station storage function or during the memorization (see above), the radio, after the end of the automatic search, calls the radio station transmitting traffic announcements.
Note: If the TP function is turned on during automatic recording, the automatic channel search operation remains active until at least 1 radio station broadcasting traffic information is found.
If during the trip the car leaves the coverage area of the transmitting radio stations, the frequencies of which are stored in the system's memory, it is necessary to reconfigure the memory cells to new radio stations.
