Removing and installing the driver's airbag and its contact ring

You will need: screwdrivers with a flat and cross-shaped blade.

1. Disconnect the wire from the terminal «minus» battery.

Attention!

• Attempting to remove the airbag module without disconnecting its power supply may cause the airbag to deploy unexpectedly.
• It is possible to proceed with the following operations to remove the airbag only after the activator capacitor is completely discharged. To discharge the capacitor, you must wait at least 15 minutes after turning off the power supply.
• Do not disassemble the airbag module.
• Do not drop the airbag module or allow water, grease or oil to come into contact with it.
• The airbag module must not be exposed to temperatures above 95°C.

2. Through the holes in the steering wheel cover, press out with a suitable rod two spring clips for securing the airbag module on the left and right..



This is how the spring clips for securing the driver's airbag module are located..




... and so - holes in the steering wheel casing for access to the latches.



3...disconnect the module from the steering wheel..



4.... move it away from the steering wheel hub..



5.... pull out the module wiring harness block retainer..




6.... disconnect the block from the terminals of the module..



7.... and remove the airbag module from the steering wheel.



8. To replace the airbag module slip ring, remove the steering wheel (see Removal and installation of a steering wheel) …



9.... and the lower part of the casing of the steering column (see Removal and installation of a casing of a steering column).

Note. The upper part of the steering column cover does not need to be completely removed, as it can be folded up thanks to the soft insert of the instrument panel mount.

10. Secure the slip ring with masking tape or masking tape.



11. Press the horn wire harness block retainer..



12.... and disconnect the block.




13. Press the retainer of the upper black block of the wiring harness with a screwdriver..



14.... and disconnect the shoe from the slip ring.



15. Pulling up the latch of the yellow block of the wiring harness..



16.... remove the lock from the block.



17. Squeeze out the retainer of the yellow block of the wiring harness with a screwdriver..



18.... and disconnect the shoe from the slip ring.



19. Turn out four screws of fastening of a contact ring of an airbag to a connector of understeering switches …



20.... disconnect the lower black block of the wiring harness from the slip ring..



21.... and remove the slip ring from the steering column switch connector.

22. Install the driver's airbag and its contact ring in the reverse order of removal.
