Attention: Electronic equipment is very sensitive to voltage drops in the electrical on-board network of the vehicle! If the battery voltage drops below 10 V, electronic systems may malfunction - constantly monitor the condition and charge of the battery!
Sports driving mode
On eligible models, activating the sport mode while driving changes the steering and throttle response of the vehicle by delaying the AT shift points. The engine is more sensitive to the movement of the gas pedal.
To activate this mode, press the button «S», located on top of the selector lever handle (see illustration 25.1). In the display field of the selected transmission mode, the corresponding indicator will be displayed (see Section 16). To deactivate the mode, press the same button again - the indicator in the display field should go out.
25.1. Sport mode activation/deactivation button
Winter driving mode
The winter driving mode does not allow a sharp increase in engine speed during acceleration, starting from a standstill with wheel slip, as well as changing the gear ratio in the transmission while driving, which protects the car from sudden skidding. The activation / deactivation button for this mode is located on the selector lever / gear shift lever panel and marked with (see illustration 25.2).
25.2. Button for activating winter driving mode AT
Winter driving mode can be activated in the AT selector lever positions «R», «R», «N», «D» And «3», and on models with Easytronic, when starting off, the corresponding indicator should light up in the display field of the selected gearbox mode (see Section 16).
When the winter mode is activated, the car will move in a permanently engaged gear: AT - 3rd, Easytronic - 2nd.
You can turn off the winter mode by pressing the same button again, switching the AT selector lever to the positions «2» or «1», by switching Easytronic to manual control mode.
25.3. Easytronic winter driving button
When the ignition is turned off, this mode is turned off automatically.
Note: To prevent damage to the transmission units, the winter driving mode is also automatically deactivated if the transmission oil temperature is too high.
In addition, on AT-equipped models, winter driving mode is automatically deactivated at speeds of 80 km/h or more.
Anti-skid (ESP) /anti slip (TS) system
With the appropriate configuration, the vehicle system controls the speed of rotation of the drive wheels and, when determining the slipping of at least one of them, reduces the engine power (engine noise changes) and slows down the spinning wheel. This ensures the stability of the course and improves the traction and coupling properties of the car.
On models with the appropriate configuration, the ESP system improves vehicle stability while driving and at the same time provides automatic control of the traction force of the power unit in all operating modes. If there is a risk of the car skidding on a command coming from the ESP control module, the power developed by the engine is automatically reduced, at the same time the wheels that start to skid are released or the wheels are controlled to brake at too high a speed of their rotation, which counteracts the skid and increases the vehicle's controllability.
Note: The ESP system fully includes the functions of the TC system.
The ESP / TC system is activated automatically when the ignition is turned on - the corresponding indicator on the instrument cluster should light up (see Section 16). After a few seconds, the indicator goes out, confirming the functional readiness of the system. When driving on a road with low traction or when making sharp maneuvers, the ESP / TC is automatically activated, and the traction indicator on the instrument panel is activated in flashing mode. The operation of the system is accompanied by a pulsation of the foot brake pedal and noise (vibration) in the underhood space.
Attention: Remember that when the ESP / TC is operating, the car is moving at the limit of traction, which borders on loss of control - be especially careful when driving further!
Turning on the indicator in continuous mode while driving indicates a failure and shutdown of the system. In this case, you can continue driving, however, you should remember that the vehicle's directional stability will deteriorate, and if the properties of the road surface change, you should drive the car with more caution. In the event of a system malfunction, contact a service station as soon as possible.
When the battery is disconnected / the power supply is interrupted, the system settings are lost - after the battery is connected, the indicator lights up continuously. The steering wheel angle sensor must be synchronized to restore system functionality. Automatic synchronization occurs when driving in a straight line for some time on a section of a dry and level road at a speed of 20-40 km / h. To synchronize the sensor manually, turn the steering wheel 1-2 times from the extreme left to the extreme right position.
If after the synchronization procedure the indicator continues to burn, contact the service station specialists.
Anti-lock brake system (ABS)
Attention: ABS improves the braking properties of the car, but will not be able to prevent collisions during careless and dangerous driving, especially on slippery roads! Do not allow negligence in driving, relying on the auxiliary systems of the car - the responsibility for traffic safety lies entirely with the driver!
ABS prevents premature wheel lockup by continuously controlling wheel speed during braking by modulating hydraulic fluid pressure in each of the brakes.
The system consists of electronic sensors, electric pumps and solenoid valves of the hydraulic brake system and is controlled by an electronic device. Checking, adjusting and servicing the ABS system should be carried out by specialists only in a service station.
Every time the ignition is turned on, a special control module diagnoses all the devices included in the ABS system - in this case, a characteristic dull noise can be heard and a noticeable pulsation of the foot brake pedal occurs, and the corresponding indicator should light up on the instrument cluster (see Section 16). After a few seconds, the indicator goes out, confirming the functional readiness of the system. If, when braking while driving, electronic sensors detect that one or more wheels are close to complete blocking, the control module activates an actuator that, by modulating the brake fluid pressure, will keep the wheels on the verge of their complete blocking. Sufficiently noticeable pulsations of the foot brake pedal, characteristic noise and slight vibration in the engine compartment are associated with the activation of the ABS and should not cause concern - continue to depress the pedal. The car remains steerable when the brake pedal is fully depressed, and even in the event of emergency braking, it remains possible to go around an obstacle. The functioning of the ABS will be accompanied by the activation in flashing mode of the corresponding indicator on the instrument cluster (see Section 16).
In the event of a malfunction in the system, the control module disables the ABS - the indicator on the instrument cluster will be constantly activated. The service brake system will continue to function normally - when the pedal is fully depressed, the wheels are blocked from turning - be careful! To eliminate the malfunction as soon as possible, contact the service station.
The ABS function is automatically deactivated when the speed drops to 5 + 10 km/h.
Speed control system (Tempostat)
With the appropriate configuration, the speedostat control buttons are built into the end part of the left steering column switch (see Section 17).
Parking assistance
The parking assistance system allows you to automatically measure the distance from the car to the rear obstacle when reversing. 4 sensors are built into the rear bumper to determine the distance (see illustration 25.4).
25.4. Parking assistance sensors
Attention: The presence of a parking assistance system does not release you from the obligation to be careful when reversing - under certain conditions, various reflective surfaces of objects or clothing, as well as extraneous sound sources can create interference in which the system does not react to an obstacle!
The parking assistance system is activated automatically when the ignition is switched on - a short beep confirms its functional readiness. When the reverse gear is engaged, at the moment of approaching an obstacle at a distance of approximately 1 m, an audible signal is activated in the car interior in intermittent mode - when approaching an obstacle less than 30 cm, the signal buzzer becomes continuous. After the reverse gear is disengaged, the horn stops.
In the event of a malfunction or malfunction in the parking assistance system, the acoustic signal will be activated continuously already at a distance of approximately 1 m from the obstacle. First of all, check the cleanliness of the sensors, wipe them with a clean cloth. If you have not been able to find a malfunction, contact a car service specialist.
Attention: Rear carriers, for example for transporting bicycles, installed close to the sensors, may interfere with the functioning of the system!
Note: On models equipped with a factory-installed parking aid, it is not possible to retrofit the trailer tow hitch.
