At the beginning of the Chapter, a schedule for the current maintenance of the car is given (see section 1). Below, the reader is offered Sections devoted to a detailed description of the procedure for performing each of the maintenance procedures separately. The Sections material includes descriptions of visual inspections, adjustments, removal and installation procedures for components, as well as various useful tips and tricks.
The proposed recommendations provide for the independent implementation of relatively simple and not requiring special training procedures for servicing a car by its owner. Maintenance work must be carried out regularly, exactly as described in the following sections, to ensure the longevity and reliability of the vehicle. Remember that TO is a complex program and the implementation of only its individual points, neglecting others, will not lead to the desired result.
Attention: If you have any doubts about the correctness of any maintenance operations, do not hesitate to seek help from specialists!
In the process of servicing his car, the reader will soon be convinced that many procedures can, and should, be combined into general groups due to the similarity of their nature or the proximity of the nodes. For example, if the car is lifted off the ground for any reason, you should take the opportunity and at the same time check the condition of the components of the exhaust system, suspension and steering. Also, when renting a torque wrench, check the tightening torque of all available threaded fasteners. When rotating the wheels, at the same time evaluate the condition of the brakes and wheel bearings.
The first step in vehicle maintenance is always self-preparation of the performer. Carefully read the material in this Chapter, then make a list of components that need attention, prepare the necessary tools and outline a brief plan for the work ahead.
When extraneous sounds are detected (noise), vibrations or odors, it is necessary to establish their cause or contact the service station, where they will do it faster and better. In addition, contact the service station specialists if you think that your car needs repair.
The compilers of the Guide strongly recommends that you observe safety measures when performing work on checking and servicing the car, strictly follow the recommendations below. Failure to follow these instructions could result in serious injury or damage to the vehicle.
Before starting work/Safety requirements
For the duration of the work for parking the car, it is necessary to choose a flat horizontal platform. The vehicle must be kept from rolling with the parking brake and wheel chocks fitted. If it is necessary to move the vehicle during work, leave the key in the ignition to prevent the steering wheel from locking (position I), while the wheel chocks do not completely remove, but only set aside at a distance sufficient to move the car.
To prevent damage to electrical and electronic equipment, as well as to avoid electric shock, always turn off the ignition when performing work. Never connect/disconnect the battery or semiconductor devices while the ignition is on! If the vehicle has been used immediately prior to service, allow the engine to cool before starting work in the engine compartment.
Never work under a vehicle that is only supported by a jack. Always substitute special racks and stops.
Do not bring lit cigarettes, matches, or other open flames near fuel containers or battery vents.
Maintenance of fuel filters or gas lines on vehicles equipped with a fuel injection system should preferably be carried out only in a service station. The fuel system is under constant high internal pressure, even when the engine is turned off - special equipment will be required to relieve pressure (see chapter 4). If it is necessary to carry out work on a running engine, be especially careful! Keep hands, clothing, hair and tools away from fan, drive belts and other rotating parts. It is advisable to take off your tie, wristwatch, rings and other jewelry and jewelry before starting work.
If the engine must be started in an enclosed space (e.g. in the garage), check that the exhaust ventilation system is working properly.
Attention: Always follow the rules for the disposal of used oil and / or other operating fluids, do not harm the environment!
Also observe the safety precautions given in other chapters of this manual when servicing the respective systems.
