2. Apply the parking brake.
3. Disconnect the pressure line from the pump.
Note. Substitute a small container to collect the escaping liquid.
4. Connect a pressure gauge between the power steering pump and the pressure hose.
5. Move the selector lever to the PARK position (Automatic gearbox) or shift lever in neutral position (Manual Transmission).
6. Fully open the pressure gauge valve.
7. Start the engine at idle.
8. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to warm up the power steering fluid to operating temperature.
9. Increase the crankshaft speed to 1500 rpm.
Attention. Do not leave the valve fully closed for more than five seconds. This may cause internal damage to the power steering pump.
10. Completely close the pressure gauge valve and read the readings,
11. Open the pressure gauge valve as soon as possible.
12. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock. If the obtained pressure values correspond to the norm (see section «Service data and specification» at the end of the chapter), the power steering pump is normal.
