The car started moving without problems
1. Before driving, you must fasten your seat belt.
2. Always try to start moving smoothly, because while the car has a minimum speed, the load on all elements of the transmission and chassis is maximum. Therefore, to avoid premature wear, it is necessary:
- a) If the car has an automatic transmission, do not press the accelerator pedal sharply.
- b) If the car is with a manual transmission, do not abruptly throw the clutch pedal. When starting off, do not hold the clutch pedal for a long time.
- c) Do not make a sudden start with the steered wheels completely turned out. If the car is front-wheel drive, this can damage the boot and / or CV joint (constant-velocity joint), unnecessarily overloading it.
- d) If you start driving uphill, it is recommended to use the parking brake (in some cases, modern cars are equipped with assistance systems when starting uphill).
Jerks at the beginning of the movement of the car
1. Violation of the fuel system and air intake system (see chapter «Supply system» And «Intake and exhaust system»).
2. Clutch failure (Manual Transmission) (see chapter «Clutch»). If the clutch slips during start-up, this indicates excessive wear or a violation of the adjustments of the free and travel of the clutch pedal. When the clutch slips, a characteristic smell of the friction materials of the clutch disc is possible (this smell can also appear with a good clutch, if you hold the clutch pedal halfway down for a long time, already during the start of movement).
3. Violation of the installation of the valve timing (see above) (see chapter «Mechanical part of the engine»). In this case, it is possible to turn on the alarm «CHECK ENGINE».
4. Malfunction of cardan transmission as a whole (see chapter «Drive shafts»), its increased wear (vehicles with a manual transmission and drive on both axles or only on the rear). Repairs are carried out exclusively by service stations. In this case, jerks may be absent, but at the moment the movement starts, a dull metallic knock will be heard (and basically it's two hits), then at every gear change.
5. Violation in the engine control system or in the transmission control system (vehicles with automatic transmission). In this case, it is possible to turn on signal-congestion «CHECK ENGINE» and/or a message will appear on the on-board computer screen (if the vehicle is equipped). You should immediately contact the service station.
6. Detonation in the engine cylinders (only petrol). The most common cause of detonation is low-quality fuel. In this case, a characteristic metallic knock will be heard from the engine. It is necessary to change the place of constant refueling of the car or switch to better fuel. Constant detonation is very harmful to the engine and can lead to breakage or violation of the geometric parameters of the connecting rod and piston group and the crankshaft, so do not delay finding out the cause of this malfunction and promptly eliminate it.
However, it is worth considering the fact that at the time or at the beginning of the movement, with a sharp opening of the throttle for maximum acceleration, detonation knocks may appear for 1-2 seconds, this is not a malfunction. In this case, the cause is a sharp change in the ignition timing (to an earlier) for optimization of engine workflows and complete combustion of fuel.
