Underbody protection and cavity preservation

Depending on the series, the wheel cavities and the bottom are covered with a special protective PVC mastic that does not require maintenance. Areas not covered with PVC mastic are covered with a layer of wax, this layer should be renewed before the onset of cold weather or after washing the bottom. At the same time, the PVC mastic coating should be checked at the same time, if it needs to be renewed.

Attention! Because ordinary bituminous rubber materials can be harmful to the PVC layer, this work should be done at maintenance stations.

Front wings of OPEL KADETT are protected by additional plastic lockers. In the area of the bottom and thresholds, the places are galvanized. Thresholds are covered with anti-corrosion liquid and wax. If it is necessary to carry out additional preservation, then this must be done in a special workshop, because the material is applied under high pressure. After winter, it is recommended to wash the bottom to clean it of salt-rich dirt.

Drain holes in cavities where moisture can collect should be inspected (rainwater, condensate), to dry them. These holes in the area of the bottom of the car can easily become clogged when the car is used. As a result, water can remain in the cavities. This also applies to areas near rotating parts where dust, clay and sand can accumulate. Of particular importance is the removal of accumulated dirt, which is still mixed with salt in winter. If the accumulated dirt is not completely removed, then there is a danger that these places will also not dry out. In any case, this can lead to progression of rust formation from the inside out, which cannot be reduced by the application of anti-corrosion protection.
