Removing
Remove air filter.
On vehicles with headlight cleaners, remove the headlight washer reservoir.
Disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
Remove the holder from the steering gear housing, remove the two locking plates, spacer and tie rods with flat washers.
Remove the steering damper, if installed.
Loosen the nut, remove the pinch bolt and disconnect the steering shaft from the drive gear shaft.
Loosen the nut of the pinch bolt that secures the flexible coupling flange to the steering shaft. Slide the flexible coupling up the shaft.
Unscrew the bolts securing the steering gear to the bulkhead and remove the steering gear through the niche of the right front wheel.
Installation
Set the rack to the position corresponding to the straight-line movement, screw on and tighten the new self-locking nuts securing the steering gear to the bulkhead.
Turn the steering wheel so that the spokes are symmetrical and point downwards.
Attach the tie rods to the steering gear by placing flat washers between the inner tie rod ends and the slider.
Reinstall the spacer, locking plates and fix them with a new holder, tighten the bolts for fastening the inner ends of the steering rods with a torque of 11.0 kgf·m.
Slide the flexible coupling down the steering shaft, put the flexible coupling flange onto the drive gear shaft and tighten the new self-locking nut of the flange coupling bolt to a torque of 2.5 kgf·m.
Feed the steering shaft up to the stop in the ball bearing and, holding the shaft in this position, insert the coupling bolt into the flange hole and tighten the new self-locking bolt fastening nut to a torque of 2.5 kgf·m.
Replace the steering damper, if removed.
Connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery. On vehicles with headlight cleaners, install the headlight washer reservoir. Replace the air filter.
Make sure the steering is in the straight ahead position.
