Removing
After unscrewing the eight fixing screws, crush the upper and lower part of the steering column trim casing.
Disconnect the connector from the switches and the ignition switch.
Remove the turn signal/headlight switch and wiper switch.
Set steering to straight ahead.
Loosen the nut and remove the bolt from the flange connecting the flexible coupling to the steering shaft.
Remove the bolt securing the steering shaft to the bulkhead.
Remove the shear plate under the instrument panel. To do this, mark a hole in the center of the left shear bolt and unscrew the shear bolt with a wrench.
Remove the shaft together with the steering wheel from the connecting flange, protecting the shaft from impacts.
Note. A plastic washer loosely placed on the steering shaft serves only to center the shaft. Before installing the shaft, the washer is put on it, and after installation it is removed.
Installation
Slide a plastic shim onto the shaft.
Make sure the steering gear is in the straight ahead position. In this case, the holes for the coupling bolt in the connecting flange must be located horizontally at the top (see photo).
Install the steering shaft with the steering wheel so that the steering wheel spokes point symmetrically downwards.
Carefully insert the steering shaft into the connecting flange so that the shaft bracket rests against the bulkhead.
Place a shear plate under the instrument panel without tightening the mounting bolts. Correctly position the steering shaft bracket on the bulkhead. Insert the tie bolt into the connecting flange.
Tighten the shear plate retaining nuts by replacing the left shear bolt and self-locking nut with new ones and placing a flat washer and cup washer under the right bolt nut.
Tighten the bolt securing the steering column bracket to the bulkhead. placing a flat washer
Push the steering shaft up until it stops in the ball bearing and, holding the shaft in this position, tighten the coupling flange pinch bolt nut.
Remove the plastic shim from the steering shaft.
Connect the switch harness connector to the ignition switch.
Install the steering column switches and reinstall both parts of the steering column cover.
Make sure the steering is in the straight ahead position.
