Specifications for mechanical steering

Steering brand Opel with rack-and-pinion steering gear. The steering drive consists of two steering rods connected by ball joints to the steering knuckles. The steering column is safety. The steering shaft is made in one piece, with the exception of vehicles with a height-adjustable steering column, on which it consists of two parts connected to each other by a cardan joint.

Some vehicles have a steering damper. The gap between the stop and the rail is adjusted by a bolt with a lock nut.

On vehicles with engine «20XE» increased rigidity of the steering mechanism in the lateral relation, which improved the accuracy of the steering action.
Steering gear ratio:

• cars with engine «16S» and automatic transmission: 24.5:1;
• other car models: 22:1.

On vehicles with 24.5:1 ratio steering, the rack has 32 teeth and is marked with one groove; on vehicles with 22:1 ratio steering, the rack has 28 teeth and is devoid of a marking groove.
