Power steering pump
The power steering pump is driven by a V-belt from the engine crankshaft pulley.
Pump brand: Saginaw.
Oil pressure with the steering wheel turned all the way to the right or left, kg / cm2: 77-83.
Note. From model year 1987, a power steering pump with a pressure of 95-100 kg / cm is used2. It differs in appearance from the previous type of pump in that it has a straight rather than a curved drain pipe. Since March 1987 on vehicles with engines «16SV» a multi-ribbed belt is used. The power steering pump is driven by a multi-ribbed accessory drive belt, the tension of which is adjusted as indicated in section «electrical equipment».
Power steering pump drive belt
The tension of the belt when pressed with a special tool in the middle of the branch between the pulleys of the pump and the crankshaft should be 45 kgf for a new belt and 25-30 kgf for a worn-in belt.
Belt dimensions, mm: 9.5x760.
Power Steering Oil
Filling capacity of the hydraulic booster system, l: ~1.
Oil used: automatic transmission oil type Dexron D.
The oil is filled into the power steering system for the entire life of the vehicle. Every 30,000 km or every two years of operation, check the oil level in the pump reservoir and top up if necessary.
The smallest turning radius at the most distant point, m: 5.275.
Angle of rotation:
- inner wheel: 39°05';
- outer wheel: 34°.
