Starting a cold engine
Vehicles with carbureted engines with manual choke control
Fully pull out the choke control handle, turn on the starter without pressing the accelerator pedal while the starter is running. At the same time, the control lamp for the carburetor air damper ajar lights up in the instrument cluster.
After starting the engine, gradually push the choke control in so that stable engine operation is maintained.
After warming up the engine to normal operating temperature, drown the handle to failure.
Vehicles with engines with automatic carburetor starter
Insert the key into the switch, sharply press and release the accelerator pedal to turn on the starting device and turn on the starter by turning the key to position III. If the engine does not start, return the key to the «I» and after 15 seconds turn on the starter again.
After starting, the engine will run at fast idle. After a few seconds, reduce the engine speed slightly by depressing the accelerator pedal sharply.
After the engine has warmed up, depress and release the accelerator pedal sharply to return to normal idling.
Hot engine start
Vehicles with carbureted engines with manual choke control
If the engine is hot, engage the starter by lightly depressing the accelerator pedal.
Vehicles with engines with automatic carburetor starter
Press the accelerator pedal half way down and, holding the pedal in this position, turn on the starter.
Starting a very hot engine in cars with carbureted engines
With a very hot engine, turn on the starter by depressing the accelerator pedal all the way. If the carburetor is overfilled, after some time, press the accelerator pedal all the way down and turn on the starter.
Vehicles with fuel injection engines
Starting both a cold and a hot engine is the same.
To do this, press the accelerator pedal to the middle of the stroke and. while holding the pedal in this position, turn on the starter.
Starting the Engine with the Auxiliary Battery
To start the engine with a discharged vehicle battery, connect its positive terminal to the positive terminal of the auxiliary battery with a wire (usually red) with clamp type «crocodile». With another wire, connect the negative terminal of the auxiliary battery to «weight» vehicle at a point away from the negative terminal of the vehicle's battery.
Note. To prevent sparking, connect the I wires first to the auxiliary battery terminals.
Do not disconnect auxiliary battery wires before engine starts at normal idle.
