The magnetic flux in the ignition coil varies 8 depending on the passage of the teeth of the armature rotating in the interpole gap of the magnetic sensor. When the armature tooth enters the interpole gap, there is no magnetic field in the integrated circuit of the Hall sensor, and there is no induced current. When the armature tooth comes out of the pole gap, in accordance with the law of induction, an alternating voltage appears in the Hall sensor circuit, the circuit closes and a voltage pulse is formed.
The width of the armature teeth corresponds to the angle of the cam.
The switch controls the ignition depending on the speed of the ignition distributor roller, the voltage of the battery, the impedance of the ignition coil, and in any engine operating mode it generates voltage pulses of a constant value.
Interruption of the current in the primary winding of the ignition coil by the switch causes a sharp change in the magnetic flux in the coil and the appearance of a high voltage current in the secondary winding of the ignition coil.
Warning. It is not recommended to touch the low-voltage and high-voltage components of the non-contact ignition system with the engine running, as they are under higher voltage than the components of the contact ignition system. Before doing any work on the ignition system, disconnect the wires from the battery.
In the engine compartment of vehicles with a contactless ignition system, there is a yellow plate with a warning in German: «High voltage ignition system - do not touch».
It is forbidden:
- replace the ignition coil with a coil of a different type;
- connect an interference suppression capacitor or test lamp to the terminal «1» ignition coils;
- connect the positive battery terminal to the terminal «1» ignition coils, as this will lead to the failure of the switch;
- use an ohmmeter or any other device that generates voltage to test the Hall sensor;
- use a charger with a voltage of more than 16 V to start the engine;
- connect to «mass» terminal «1» ignition coils when connecting an anti-theft device;
- disconnect the high voltage wire from the terminal «4» ignition coils with the engine running.
When checking engine compression, before turning the crankshaft with a starter, disconnect the block from the switch or connect the terminal with a wire «4» ignition coils with «weight».
When checking sparking with a spark gap, connect a 5 kΩ resistor in series to the high voltage terminal of the ignition coil.
When checking the shaft speed of the distributor sensor or the cam angle, for accurate results, connect in series with the terminal «15» ignition coil resistor at 0.9-1.0 ohms. After checking, be sure to disconnect the resistor. If it remains on target, the engine will be difficult to start and the ignition system will be impaired.
