The brake system has a double hydraulic system on the front and rear discs. The front and rear hydraulic lines are used independently, so that in the event of a failure in one of the circuits, the remaining circuit will still function. The handbrake is driven by a cable to the brake shoes located on the inside of the rear discs, which are drums for them. The disc brakes are self-adjusting, but the handbrake is manually adjusted.
Some Sedan models and all Touring models are equipped with a rear deceleration brake pressure limiter. The valve prevents the rear wheels from sticking by reducing pressure on the rear brakes when decelerating.
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) on some models it is installed as standard, and can be installed additionally on order for all models. It effectively regulates the hydraulic pressure on each individual brake to prevent the wheels from jamming. The system includes an electronic control device that analyzes the signals from the speed sensors of each wheel. The signals are compared with each other and if it is detected that one wheel is rotating more slowly than the others, the system instantly issues a signal to reduce the pressure in the brake circuit of that wheel. The pressure decreases until the speed of the wheel equals the speed of the other wheels. In this case, the two front brakes are modulated separately, and the two rear brakes are modulated together. The ABS system is equipped with a hydraulic line from the master cylinder to the brakes, a vacuum servo and a master cylinder similar to non-ABS models.
In the event of a malfunction in the ABS system, it is recommended to contact a specialized Opel service station for diagnosis and repair.
