The order of pumping
Bleeding the brake system on models up to 1998 with a 3-channel ABS system must be carried out in the following order:
- left front wheel brake;
- right front wheel brake;
- left rear wheel brake;
- right rear wheel brake.
Bleeding the brake system on models from 1998 with a 4-channel ABS system must be carried out in the following order:
- left rear wheel brake;
- right front wheel brake;
- right rear wheel brake;
- left front wheel brake.
Main Method
An assistant is required to use this method.
1. Remove the plastic cap from the bleeder valve on the first wheel brake.
2. Put the rubber tube on the valve.
3. Dip the other end of the tube into a container filled with brake fluid.
4. Check that the brake fluid level in the reservoir is above the MIN·mark and have an assistant depress the brake pedal several times and keep it depressed.
5. Open the bleed valve (about one turn) and wait for the brake fluid to drain. When the fluid flow stops, close the valve, have an assistant release the brake pedal slowly and check the fluid level in the reservoir.
6. Repeat step 5 until there are no air bubbles in the escaping brake fluid.
7. Tighten the bleed valve securely, remove the tube and replace the cap.
8. Repeat the pumping operation on the brakes of the other wheels.
Bleeding Using the One Way Valve Kit
A one-way valve is installed in the rubber tube of this kit, preventing air and old brake fluid from entering back into the brake system. The kit may also include a container for collecting old brake fluid.
Bleeding Using a Pressure Bleeding Kit
By connecting the pressure bleeding kit to the brake fluid reservoir, to bleed the system, simply open the bleed valves in turn to drain the old brake fluid and bleed the air.
Examination (all methods)
After bleed is complete, wash off spilled brake fluid, tighten bleed valves securely and refit caps. Check the brake fluid level again.
