Inspection
1. Remove the rear brake discs.
2. Clean the brake mechanism of dust and measure the thickness of the friction material of the pads. If any of the pads must be replaced, replace the brake pads on both wheels. Check the condition of the brake drum.
Removing
1. Disconnect the spring and cable from the handbrake lever.
2. Remove anti-noise springs and fixing screws. On late models, press on the spring caps, turn them 90°and remove them together with the springs.
3. Mark the brake pads and remove them by disconnecting the upper and lower return springs.
Installation
Warning! Lubricate the back of the pads with high temperature grease prior to installation.
1. Install the lever on the brake guard.
2. Install the return spring.
3. Install the front brake pad.
4. Install spring and cap.
5. Push on the cap and turn it.
6. Install the rear brake shoe and lower return spring.
7. Hook the handbrake lever on the lower edge of the brake shoe.
8. Install the retainer spring and cap.
9. Install the regulator between the pads.
10. Install the top return spring.
11. Tighten the adjusting nut to adjust the handbrake mechanism.
