Correct location of piston ring end gaps

Installation

1. Before installation, it is necessary to check the end and side clearances of the piston rings.

2. Install the top compression ring into the cylinder using the piston.



3. Measure the ring end clearance with a feeler gauge. If the gap is too small, replace the piston rings or file the ends of the existing rings with a fine file. Be careful, piston rings are sharp and break easily.

4. Do the same for all rings.

5. After checking and adjusting the end clearance, the rings can be installed on the pistons.

6. The oil scraper ring is installed first. First install the expansion ring in the groove, then install the lower and upper oil scraper rings.

7. After installing all the elements of the oil scraper ring, check that the upper and lower rings rotate freely.

8. Install the second compression ring with the mark up.

9. Then install the top compression ring.



10. Using a feeler gauge, measure the gaps between the rings and their grooves.
