Removing
Attention! Observe safety precautions regarding airbags.
1. Disconnect the wire terminal «masses» (-) from the negative battery terminal and wait at least one minute for the capacitors in the airbag unit to discharge.
2. Remove the airbag unit from the steering wheel.
3. Place the steering wheel in the middle position and remove the key from the ignition switch. The wheels in this case must be in position for driving in a straight line.
Attention! The steering wheel and ignition lock must be locked during the entire removal and installation procedure.
4. Release plug 3 of the horn and radio receiver from the mount, and then disconnect it (see illustration).
5. Bend back the safety plate 1 and unscrew the nut 4 securing the steering wheel to the shaft (see illustration 21.4).
6. Install tool 5 KM 210-B and use it to remove the steering wheel from the shaft (see illustration).
Attention! Mark the position of the steering wheel on the shaft before removing it.
Attention! The steering wheel is installed with guide pins 6 for the airbag unit. When installing a new steering wheel with the same airbag, the guide pins must be cut off (see illustration 21.0). It is recommended to entrust this work to a workshop.
