The oil pressure warning light does not come on after the ignition is switched on
Faulty oil pressure sensor
- Turn on the ignition, disconnect the wire from the oil pressure sensor and connect to «mass» (-). If the control lamp lights up, replace the sensor
The oil pressure sensor is not receiving power due to oxidation of the contacts
- Check wire and contacts
Warning lamp defective
- Replace light bulb
Oil pressure warning light does not go out after starting the engine
Too hot oil
- Ignore if the warning light goes out when you press the accelerator
Warning light does not go out when the accelerator pedal is pressed or remains on while driving
Too low oil pressure
- Check the oil level. Refill if necessary. Check that the oil pressure is correct according to the vehicle manual.
Wiring to oil pressure regulator shorted to housing
- Disconnect the wire from the oil pressure sensor and set aside (To «mass» don't bring). Turn on the ignition. If the warning light comes on, check the wiring
Faulty oil pressure sensor
- Replace Regulator
Too low oil pressure over the entire engine speed range
Too little oil in the engine
- Add oil
Clogged strainer in the oil pick-up pipe in the sump
- Remove oil pan, clean strainer, replace if necessary
Faulty oil pump
- Remove and check the pump. Replace if necessary
Crankshaft bearing shell defect
- Dismantle the engine
Too low oil pressure in the lower engine speed range
Reducing valve stuck open due to contamination
- Remove and check the valve
Too high oil pressure at engine speeds above 2000 rpm
Reducing valve does not open due to contamination
- Remove and check the valve
