Towing Rules
2. Turn on the ignition on the towed vehicle. This is necessary in order for the steering, direction indicators, horn, windshield wipers and washers to function.
3. Place the shift lever in neutral position.
4. Turn on the hazard warning lights on the towing and towed vehicles.
It should be borne in mind that when the engine is not running, the power steering and the vacuum brake booster do not work. When braking, the brake pedal will require more force. More effort is needed for steering.
When using a cable for towing, the driver of the towing vehicle must release the clutch smoothly when shifting into gear, and the driver of the towed vehicle must ensure that the cable is constantly taut.
Attention! When using a cable, there is a fairly high probability of collision, so it is recommended to use elastic traction.
If there is no oil in the manual or automatic transmission, the vehicle must be towed with the drive wheels raised. All-wheel drive vehicles should be towed or moved on a trailer. Partial loading method is not allowed.
Vehicles with automatic transmission
The gear lever must be in the N position when towing.
The maximum permissible towing speed is 80 km/h.
The maximum permitted towing distance for an automatic vehicle is 100 kilometers.
When towing with a faulty gearbox or for a longer distance than allowed, the car should be towed with the front wheels raised or on a trailer, because when the engine is not running, the automatic transmission pump does not function and its lubrication is not provided. Towing to start the engine of the vehicle being towed It is recommended that you try to start the engine with a booster battery.
Attention! Towing a car with an automatic transmission in order to start the engine is not allowed.
5. Engage 2nd or 3rd gear, depress and depress the clutch pedal.
6. Turn on the ignition.
7. Slowly release the clutch pedal when both vehicles start moving.
As soon as the engine starts, depress the clutch pedal and shift out of gear to avoid hitting the towing vehicle.
