2. Piston #1 is located at the front end of the engine (at the toothed drive belt). Note that the crankshaft rotates clockwise when viewed from the front of the vehicle.
3. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Remove all spark plugs (see related section), to make it easier to turn the crankshaft.
4. To access the camshaft sprocket alignment marks, remove the outer toothed drive belt cover (see chapter 6).
5. Install the socket with the extension rod on the crankshaft sprocket bolt and rotate the shaft until the alignment marks on the camshaft sprockets align with the slots on the inner toothed belt cover. Align the notch on the rim of the crankshaft pulley with the pointer (see illustration). The engine is now placed at TDC on the compression stroke.
Attention! If the crankshaft pulley has been removed, use the mark on the rim of the crankshaft sprocket. The mark should line up with the slot on the oil pump housing (see chapter 7).
