Front oil seal (near toothed belt)
1. Remove the crankshaft sprocket and spacer as described in Chapter 8.
2. Carefully punch or drill two small holes in the gland. Screw the self-tapping screws into the holes and, pulling them with pliers, remove the oil seal. Alternatively, gently pry out the oil seal.
Attention! Be very careful not to damage the oil pump.
3. Clean the gland housing and remove with an emery cloth all scuffs and bumps that could damage the new gland during installation.
4. Lubricate the sealing lips of the new oil seal with clean engine oil and place it on the end of the shaft. Slide the stuffing box into position so that it is flush with the casing. If necessary, use a suitable tubular drift (it must rest only on the solid outer edge of the seal) (see illustration). Be very careful not to damage the lip of the seal. Make sure the edges are facing in.
5. Wash off all traces of oil, then install spacer and crankshaft sprocket (see chapter 8).
Rear oil seal (at flywheel/drive plate)
6. Remove the flywheel/drive plate as described in Chapter 15.
7. Replace the oil seal as described in points 2-4 (see illustration).
8. Install flywheel/drive plate (see chapter 15).
