Level measurement
1. Jack up the vehicle completely so that it is level and place it on axle stands.
2. Using a socket wrench, remove the filler plug from the right wall of the final drive unit. On models with a self-locking differential, you must first wring out the plug located in the center of the plug (see illustration).
3. From a piece of wire, make a level probe by bending one end of it. Make sure the oil level reaches the lower edge of the filler hole.
4. If necessary, add the correct amount of oil of the correct type to the block.
5. Install the filler plug and tighten it with the tightening torque specified specifications. Wipe the cork and install a plastic plug in its center (where necessary).
6. Check the final drive gear oil seal and differential bearing oil seals for leaks. If any are found, replace the seals.
7. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
Filling the block when changing oil
8. Proceed as described in previous subchapter, paying attention to the following:
On models without limited slip differential, use special differential oil.
On models with a self-locking differential, the procedure must be carried out in two steps:
- 1) pour 0.25 l of a special differential additive into the final drive,
- 2) pour approximately 0.75 liters of special oil into the main gear to bring the level to the lower edge of the filler hole.
