From 6.84
The valve timing adjustment has so far been carried out by blocking the camshaft with a KM-537 OPEL locker. Since June 1984, there are no more holes in the camshaft housing for installing KM-537. It is not possible to block the camshaft in this way.
The valve timing is now adjusted using the KM-537 OPEL measuring bar and a micrometer. If you do not have a measuring bar at hand, the measurement can be made using a micrometer and a crossbar placed on the camshaft housing. This adjustment technique can also be used on machines produced before June 1984.
Rotate the crankshaft so that the marking on the flywheel matches the indicator on the clutch housing (photo). In this case, the piston of cylinder 1 is at TDC, the valves of cylinder 4 are closed.
The marking on the injection pump gear wheel matches the marking on the pump bracket (photo).
Attention! Check the tension of the toothed belt using KM-510 A, adjust if necessary.
Install the KM-238 measuring bar with a micrometer so that the leg of the micrometer 0 7-10 mm is at the base of the 2nd intake cam of the 1st cylinder. Set the micrometer to 0.
Move the micrometer together with the tire towards the top of the cam by 10 mm.
Using a 22 mm wrench, turn the camshaft clockwise until the micrometer stem rises 0.56 mm. Also fig. B3528.
While holding the camshaft in this position, tighten the wheel screws to 90 Nm.
Check the adjustment again. Also check the adjustment of the injection pump. Adjust.
