The rated voltage in the electrical system of the car is 12 V. The electrical equipment is made according to a single-wire circuit. The negative terminal of the battery is connected to the housing, which acts as a second electrical wire. The battery is located in the engine compartment.
The starter has a forced movement of the engine drive gear by means of an electromagnetic traction relay. The car is fitted with a Bosch starter. The starter switch is an integral part of the ignition switch and, when turned on, actuates the electromagnetic traction relay installed in the starter.
Generators from Delco Remy or Bosch can be installed on the car. The maximum output current of the generator is 100 A.
The generator is driven through a V-belt from the crankshaft of the engine. There is a voltage regulator on the slip ring side of the cover. On the instrument panel there is a control lamp that controls the process of charging the battery. If the lamp does not go out when the engine is running, this indicates a malfunction in the battery charging process.
When working on electrical equipment, certain safety precautions should always be observed:
a) Be careful - electrical appliances are especially easily damaged if they are not handled correctly during inspection, connection and maintenance.
b) Do not leave the ignition on for a long time with the engine off.
c) Never disconnect the wires from the battery while the engine is running.
d) When connecting the wires from the auxiliary power source for emergency start of the engine, observe the polarity.
e) Always disconnect the negative cable from the battery first and connect last to avoid a short circuit if accidentally touched by a tool while loosening/tightening the terminal clamp.
