Checking and adjusting idle speed

To regulate the idle speed, a tachometer specially designed for diesel engines, powered by photocells, is used. For example, Gossen's Zikomat tachometer has a photodiode and reacts to light reflected by a white marking strip on the crankshaft pulley.



Make a chalk mark on the crankshaft pulley 1-2 cm wide or stick a piece of aluminum foil of the same size.

Start the engine and warm up to operating temperature.

Turn off all electrical consumers.

Check the RPM on the tachometer.

Loosen the locknut on the injection pump.

Set the RPM with the idle speed screw (see arrow in fig.) within 820-880 rpm (see fig.05409).

Lock the adjusting screw with varnish.
