Opel Vectra/Calibra vehicles can optionally be equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission.
The box is controlled by an electronic unit (computer), located behind the front panel of the body. The computer receives information from sensors about the position of the gear lever, oil temperature, as well as engine load (the last is from the Motronic fuel injection computer).
The gear shifting process is carried out with the help of four electro-hydraulic valves. Such a control system has the following advantages: lower fuel consumption, better gear shifting, more choice of driving modes ("economical", "sports", "winter"). If the input signals fail or the valves are damaged, the system switches to the emergency program. Malfunctions that occur during the operation of the car are recorded in the computer memory and can be issued at the request of the owner.
Appropriate experience and knowledge is required to check the automatic transmission and correct troubleshooting. Therefore, this chapter describes only some checks and a table for decoding fault codes.
