When the ignition is switched on, all check lamps come on. If all monitored functions are in order, the lamps will turn on after about 4 seconds. go out. The indication of the brake lights goes out after they have been used and their operation has been checked. The brake fluid level indicator goes out when the engine is running.
The proof test monitors fluid levels, front disc brake lining thickness, and headlight main bulbs, including wires and fuses. When checking lamps, damage is recorded only if the corresponding circuit is switched on.
The corresponding fault indication lights up in the following cases:
- Fluid level in the windshield/headlight washer reservoir is below normal
- the engine oil level when the ignition is turned off or after a previous trip is below normal
- coolant level in the expansion tank is below normal
- either one of the dipped beam bulbs or one of the rear lights burned out
- one of the brake lights burned out (also on a trailer, if the manufacturer provides a device for a trailer)
- front disc brake pad wear maximum
The engine oil level is also checked while driving. When the normal oil level is reached, the fault indication goes out. If the engine oil level indicator lights up after 1 min. after switching on the ignition:
- check engine oil level
- add oil if necessary.
If the level indicator lights up while driving, then there is an acute shortage of oil:
- turn off the engine
- check the oil level,
- add oil if necessary
- contact a service station for troubleshooting.
