General information about DOHC engine repair

Engine with two overhead camshafts, four cylinders, mounted transversely on the front side of the car and gearbox on the left side. All main engine components are made of aluminum alloy, with the exception of plastic toothed belt covers. The crankshaft is five-bearing with fixation from axial movement by thrust half rings, which are mounted on the central main bearing. The camshafts are driven by a toothed belt. Each camshaft operates the valves via hydraulic tappets. Thus, valve clearance adjustment is not required. Lubrication is carried out by an oil pump, which is installed on the right end of the crankshaft and takes oil through a strainer located in the oil pan. The pump supplies oil through an externally mounted full flow oil filter.

Repair without removing the engine

On the engine installed in the car, you can perform the following operations:

• removal and installation of the cylinder head;
• removal and installation of a toothed belt and pulleys;
• replacement of oil sealing rings of the camshaft;
• removal and installation of camshafts and pushers;
• removal and installation of the oil pan;
• removal and installation of connecting rods and pistons;
• removal and installation of the oil pump;
• replacement of crankshaft oil sealing rings;
• replacement of the engine/gearbox mount;
• removal and installation of the flywheel.
