1. With the engine installed in the vehicle's engine compartment, check the engine oil and coolant levels. Check that all previously removed wires and hoses are installed in their places.
2. On vehicles with gasoline engines, disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition unit and remove the fuel pump relay. Crank the engine with the starter until the oil pressure warning light goes out, then connect the electrical connector to the ignition unit and install the fuel pump relay.
3. On vehicles with diesel engines, turn on the ignition and immediately turn the engine crankshaft with the starter (so that the glow plugs do not have time to warm up), until the oil pressure warning light goes out.
4. Start the engine. It may take longer to start the engine than usual due to the shutdown of the fuel system.
5. With the engine idling, check for fuel, coolant, and oil leaks. At this stage of engine operation, smell and smoke can be observed from heated parts of the engine when oil burns out that got on the engine during assembly.
6. The engine should idle until the coolant is warm, which can be felt through the upper radiator hose. Then turn off the engine.
7. After the engine has cooled down, check the oil and coolant levels.
8. When installing new pistons, piston rings or crankshaft bearings in the engine, it is necessary to produce the engine during the first 800 km. Do not operate the engine at wide open throttle or under heavy load at low engine speeds. It is recommended to change the oil and oil filter at the end of the break-in period.
