Maintenance work
Rotate the engine several times to check the belt.
Only in this way can you really see all the surfaces of the V-ribbed belt. Often the belt has only one, but a deep crack, which, when checked, can lie exactly on the belt pulley.
Replace a torn or frayed belt immediately.
Left: all Vectra models are equipped with an anti-rotation stop [stop]. This design contributes to better damping of the push and pull reactions from the engine. The photo shows a stopper for a 1.6 liter 8-valve engine.
On right: Remove poly V-belt. The photo shows a fixed tension roller. Here, a suitable drill is pushed into the holes of the tension roller and its flange.
Tip: a description of the installation and dismantling of the V-ribbed belt can be found in the section «Dismantling the generator» in this chapter.
