Checking the battery charge

If, despite the normal level of acid, the battery does not show signs of life, then you should check the state of its charge. This information can be obtained from the specific gravity of the acid in the battery. With Opel battery «Freedom» just look through its viewing window. For batteries with a plug, you need a special hydrometer for testing, which you can rent at a gas station.

Unscrew the battery caps.

Suck out enough acid to allow the hydrometer spindle to float freely.

Look at the specific gravity of the acid: 1.28 kg / l - the battery is fully charged; 1.20 kg / l - half charged; 1.12 kg / l - discharged.

Tip: With a uniformly low acid density, it is enough to charge the battery. If a separate cell is discharged, then the battery is presumably defective - have it checked at an automotive electrical equipment repair shop.
