The functioning of the ignition and injection system is supported by an extensive emergency operation program; if the sensor fails, there is a break in the wire connection or a ground contact occurs. At the same time, a malfunction is registered in the electronic storage device.
The emergency operation mode is distinguished by the control unit as follows: the normal control mode is retained, but an auxiliary value is used instead of the missing information in the ignition and fuel metering calculations. Example: if the temperature sensor fails, the control unit makes calculations with an auxiliary coolant temperature value of 80°C.
