Caution: Before doing any work near the airbag unit, steering column, or instrument panel, disable the SRS to prevent injury from accidental deployment.
1. Remove the airbag module (see Section 12).
2. Bring the front wheels into a straight line and lock the steering column by removing the key from the ignition.
3. Disconnect the wiring connector (see resist. illustration) and using a wrench, unscrew the bolt securing the steering wheel to the column.
13.3 Disconnect the connector (1) horn wiring: 2. Bolt of fastening of a cool wheel
Note: If equipped, you must also disconnect the wiring from the Infotainment remote control switches.
4. Check the alignment of the marks on the steering wheel and steering column shaft (see resist. illustration).
13.4 When removing / installing the steering wheel on the shaft (1) steering column labels (indicated by arrows) must match
5. Grasping the wheel with your hands on both sides and shaking it from side to side, remove it from the splines of the shaft.
Attention: The use of impacts when removing the steering wheel is not allowed!
6. Before installing the steering wheel, drive and clean the threaded connection. Make sure that the wheels of the car are in a straight position - otherwise the contact block of the steering column switches may be damaged when installing the steering wheel.
7. Place the wheel on the steering column shaft so that the electrical wiring connector (see resist. illustration) entered the groove on the steering wheel, follow the coincidence of the labels (see illustration 13.4).
13.7 When installing the groove (2) on the steering wheel must align with the connector (1)
8. Lubricate the new steering wheel mounting bolt with fixing compound (e.g. Lochte 243), screw it in and tighten to the required torque (see specs).
9. Connect the electrical wiring connectors - follow the correct laying of the harness.
10. Install the driver's frontal airbag module (see Section 12).
11. On a level road, check the correct neutral position of the steering wheel, if necessary, reinstall it. Check the operation of the horn and remote control (with appropriate equipment) infotainment system.
Note: On models equipped with the ESP system, it is necessary to match the steering angle sensor using special equipment (see Section 8).
