Note: Frameless flexible rubber brushes have metal reinforcing rails inside.
Checking the condition of the brushes
1 Good visibility is an important component of traffic safety. The condition of the windshield wiper assemblies should be checked regularly in accordance with the vehicle's routine maintenance schedule (see section 1). Windscreen wiper blades accumulate a film of road film over time, reducing their performance, so the blades should be washed regularly in a mild cleaning solution. It is recommended to replace the wiper blades at least 1 time per year.
2. Wiper blade assemblies should be inspected regularly and replaced if hardened or cracked on the rubber of the blades.
Note: Before inspecting the windscreen wipers, the wiper arms must be in the service position (see below). If nothing unusual is found on inspection, wet the windshield/rear window, turn on the wiper, let it run for a while, then turn it off. An uneven brush mark on the glass or streaks on clean glass indicate that the brush should be replaced.
3. If the brush does not clean the glass well enough, it is possible that particles of wax or other material have fallen on the glass or the wiper blade. In this case, wipe the outside of the glass with a mild cleaning solution. You can check the cleanliness of the glass by washing it with clean water. Water drops should not form on clean glass.
Note: The use of a liquid with wax-dissolving properties for glass cleaning can significantly improve the performance of windshield wipers. Then you need to wipe the brush with a soft cloth soaked in cleaning solution and rinse it with water. If the brush still does not clean the glass well enough, replace the brush (see below)
4. During the operation of the wiper mechanism, the mounting nuts may loosen, so they should be checked and, if necessary, tightened each time the brushes are checked.
5. Check up correctness of an arrangement of brushes on glass in a parking position of screen wipers. To do this, measure the distance from the edge of the windshield to the middle of the wiper blade (see resist. illustration).
12.5 Checking the lowering end point of the windshield washer levers
Note: The brush must not touch the glass during the measurement. If necessary, adjust by rearranging the wiper arms (see Chapter 12, Section 7).
Replacing the windshield wiper blades
6. Turn off the ignition without removing the key from the lock, press the right stalk down and hold it in this position for about 8 seconds - the wiper arms move to the vertical position.
7. Turn the brush 90°and release the lock to remove it from the lever (see resist. illustration).
12.7 Removing the brush from the windshield lever
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Replacement of a brush of a screen wiper of back glass
9. Move the wiper arm away from the glass surface, turn the brush 90°and remove it (see resist. illustration).
12.9 To remove the rear wiper blade, press it in the direction of the stopper (1) and separate from the lever
10. Put a new brush on the wiper arm and snap it into the retainer clips. Check the fixation is secure.
