You will need a multimeter to do the job.
1. We prepare the car for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Before starting work, check the integrity of the fuse F41 (see «Fuse and relay mounting blocks»), if necessary, replace it. Turn on the ignition (turn the key in the ignition switch to position II) and check the operation of the electric heating of the mirror. If the fuse blows again, there is a short circuit in the wiring that must be repaired (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»).
3. Check the relay for turning on the electric heating of the mirrors (see «Mounting Blocks - Replacing Fuses and Relays»).
4. Remove the mirror element (see below).
5. We transfer the multimeter to the voltmeter mode, turn on the ignition. The voltage should be 11-14 V.
If there is no voltage, the electrical wiring is faulty (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»). If voltage is applied, the heating element is defective.
6. To make sure that the heating element is malfunctioning, we connect the multimeter in ohmmeter mode to the terminals of the mirror element and check the resistance. If the resistance is infinite (chain break), the heating element is defective.
