1 - selector lever;
2 - automatic transmission winter mode switch. When the winter mode is switched on, the control lamp in the switch lights up. This mode is intended for starting off on slippery surfaces, starting in this case occurs in third gear. The mode is turned off when the switch is pressed again, when the ignition is turned off, the selector is set to position 2 or 1, and also when the transmission oil temperature is too high.
3 - scale of the main operating modes of the automatic transmission:
- R - «parking». Designed for long-term parking of the car, the engine and chassis are separated, the output shaft of the gearbox is blocked (the car cannot move spontaneously). Switch on the mode only when the vehicle is completely stopped.
Warning! When the vehicle is parked on uphill or downhill slopes, additionally apply the parking brake.
- R - «reverse». Designed to move the car backwards. Switch on the mode only when the vehicle is completely stopped.
- N - «neutral». Designed for short parking and towing, the engine and chassis are separated.
- D - «drive». It is designed to move the car forward, including for short-term parking under all standard road conditions.
Comment. In many materials on the operation of automatic transmissions, it is very often recommended to include «neutral» during stops in the process of movement for more than 1-2 minutes. On these vehicles during stops (and holding the brake pedal) for more than two seconds, the engine is automatically disconnected from the transmission (turns on «neutral»), Therefore, in this case, the above recommendation does not make sense. When releasing the brake pedal «neutral» turns off.
3, 2, 1 - additional modes of movement forward, in which gear shifting is limited to third, second or first, respectively. May be useful under certain road conditions: towing a trailer, driving in heavy city traffic at low speed, driving over rough terrain. Also, these modes can be used for engine braking.
4 - automatic transmission sports mode switch. When turned on, the corresponding control lamp lights up on the instrument panel (see «Dashboard»). The mode is designed for dynamic movement of the car using the maximum power and traction capabilities of the engine. As a result, fuel consumption increases. The mode is turned off when the switch is pressed again or when the ignition is turned off.
5 - switch blocking the selector from accidental movement.
Switching of operating modes is carried out by moving the selector handle back and forth, while the control lamp lights up opposite the symbol of the selected mode. The engine can only be started with the selector in positions P and N. To switch from P to R and vice versa, from N to R, from D to 3 and from 2 to 1, additionally press switch 5. In addition, to switch from P to R you need to press the brake pedal. When switching modes, do not press the gas pedal.
Comment. With a disconnected or dead battery, to move the selector from position P, do the following:
- 1. Raise up the selector cover (see «Parking brake lever - replacement»).
- 2. Using a slotted screwdriver, move the solenoid slightly forward and move the selector.
